Shaileshwar Mahadev Temple

The Himalayas, or Himalaya, is a mountain range in Asia, separating the plains of the Indian subcontinent from the Tibetan Plateau. The range has some of the planet's highest peaks, including the very highest, Mount Everest. Over 100 peaks exceeding 7,200 m in elevation lie in the Himalayas. 

Mount Kailash, is a mountain in the Ngari Prefecture, Tibet Autonomous Region of China. It has an altitude of 6,714 m. It lies in the Kailash Range of the Transhimalaya, in the western part of the Tibetan Plateau. 

Nanda Devi is the second-highest mountain in India, after Kangchenjunga, and the highest located entirely within the country. It is the 23rd-highest peak in the world. Nanda Devi was considered the highest mountain in the world before computations in 1808 proved Dhaulagiri to be higher. 

Folk dance and music forms an integral part of the people and culture of Garhwal. The major religion followed by the Garhwali people is Hinduism and the majority of population consists of Brahmins. The main languages spoken here are Hindi, Kumaoni, Garhwali, Bhotiya and Jaunsari.. 

Dedicated to Lord Shiva, this Hindu temple is located in the Cantonment area of the city and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Shaileshwer Mahadev. It is the place where the great revolt of India’s independence in 1857 started. The history of this temple in Chamoli distt is little known. However, it is said that at this temple, the kanakpaal panwar rulers used to perform the pilgrimage on auspicious occasions making it a significant place of worship in the city. The temple complex also includes a memorial which is built to commemorate the martyrs of the Independence War of 1857. 

The three-week-long Nanda Devi Raj Jat is a pilgrimage and festival of Uttarakhand. India. The Raj-Jaat is celebrated in Chamoli Garhwal district, and traditionally only the deities of Garhwal Division took part in it.
